Some notes about matrices

چکیده
1 Linear algebra and geometry on R, C If m, n are positive integers, we shall denote by L(R,R) the space of reallinear mappings from R to R, and by L(C,C) the space of complexlinear mappings from C to C. In the special case where m = n, we may simply write L(R), L(C), respectively. Also when m = n, we write I for the identity mapping on R or C, as appropriate. Using the standard basis for real and complex Euclidean spaces, linear transformations can be identified with matrices in the usual manner. Let

متن کاملNotes About Comparing Long-term Care Expenditures Across Countries; Comment on “Financing Long-term Care: Lessons From Japan”
The comparison of long-term care (LTC) expenditures is a difficult task. National LTC systems differ widely in terms of eligibility criteria, level of benefits, institutional variety and regional heterogeneity. In this commentary I will first give some general remarks on cross country comparisons. Then I discuss the role of the informal sector which is the most importan...
متن کاملNotes on Simplification of Matrices
These notes discuss how to “simplify” an (n × n) matrix. From the point of view of the larger context of the course, the goal is to have a way to compute e for a given matrix A, which is useful in solving linear ODEs. This is a preliminary version. If you have any comments or corrections, even very minor ones, please let me know. Let us note that the definition of exponentials of matrices and t...
متن کاملProperties of matrices with numerical ranges in a sector
Let $(A)$ be a complex $(ntimes n)$ matrix and assume that the numerical range of $(A)$ lies in the set of a sector of half angle $(alpha)$ denoted by $(S_{alpha})$. We prove the numerical ranges of the conjugate, inverse and Schur complement of any order of $(A)$ are in the same $(S_{alpha})$.The eigenvalues of some kinds of matrix product and numerical ranges of hadmard product, star-congruen...
متن کاملFree probability and random matrices
In these lectures notes we will present and focus on free probability as a tool box to study the spectrum of polynomials in several (eventually) random matrices, and provide some applications.
متن کاملDeterminants, Matrix Norms, Inverse Mapping Theorem
The purpose of this notes is to present some useful facts about matrices and determinants and a proof of the inverse mapping theorem that is rather different from the one in Apostol. Notation: Mn(R) denotes the set of all n× n real matrices. Determinants: If A ∈ Mn(R), we can consider the rows of A: r1, . . . , rn. These are elements of R, considered as row vectors. Conversely, given n row vect...
